I think as cat lovers we should do what works for us and our homes. For me, this setup keeps my apartment clean and hygienic for my cats. I also work full-time and have a chronic illness that makes it hard for me to move, so this makes chores much easier to manage. Yes, scooping is important. Replying to @Lones it never fully closes. When it’s rotating it stay open the whole time. It should never rotate when your cat is in it, so you never have to worry about that. If it does, stop using immediately. The cleaning cycle begins 5 mins after it detects that they have left, so if they want to play in it after using the bathroom, it’s pretty safe.
